Sahasi Breast Care – Taruna’s personal story

The name ‘Sahasi’ was given in honor of my beloved Japanese friend (Sahasi), who passed away from breast cancer.

We shared the same birthday month, and celebrated this with great joy. During a visit to Japan, I was staying at Sahasi’s house and offered her a Breast Care Massage session as a gift. It is something I would often do as a gesture of affection.

In those times, although I had recently developed the breast care massage technique, I was still primarily focusing on Ayurvedic yoga massage. But while providing holistic Ayurvedic Yoga Massage sessions, I sensed a deeper need in women to receive the massage work on their breasts in a very respectful manner.

This led me to delve into learning breast massage, which was rooted in Ayurvedic principles. Yet, while giving the sessions, I felt that the massage was incomplete.

Then with the help of my teacher, Master Kusum Modak, and using my own knowledge and experience as a medical doctor, I expanded the technique, making it more complete, and started receiving amazing feedback from the women who received those sessions.

During one such breast care massage session with Sahasi, my Japanese friend, I unfortunately discovered a significant tumor in her breast. The lump was so big that it was not possible to miss its presence, and it weighed heavy on my heart as I gently completed the session.

Following the session, Sahasi took me to the city for a celebratory indulgence in our shared love: ice cream.

Our time together was marked by a unique closeness, and I consciously chose to celebrate those moments, setting aside the looming awareness of Sahasi’s prognosis. As a surgeon, I was all too familiar with the challenging road ahead.

The next day we sat for some sharing and conversing. And before I could start, Sahasi said, ‘Taruna, I know what you want to say. And I will not take the treatment!’. Although, I tried my best to persuade her to take the treatment, she absolutely refused.

Within a few months, Sahasi bid farewell to this beautiful world.

In the aftermath of Sahasi’s battle with breast cancer, a shift occurred. My focus transitioned from a heightened interest in Ayurvedic Yoga Massage to a dedicated commitment to raising awareness about breast care. Hence, the creation of the Breast Care program unfolded, a journey marked by continuous learning.

The name Sahasi is not just a tribute to my departed friend; it also signifies the need for immense courage in addressing breast-related concerns, touching one’s own breasts, and, crucially, seeking medical advice when necessary.

Through this transformative journey, a profound realization emerges. As a woman summons the courage to embrace her breasts, accept them unconditionally, and bravely confront changes, she embodies Sahasi. It’s a subtle, joyful transformation and a struggle-free journey into the true essence of Sahasi.

In simplicity, ease, and silent celebration, a woman becomes Sahasi! And so, the story of Sahasi continues to inspire courage in every woman’s unique breast care journey.

Sahasi – a journey initiated by one woman’s unwavering commitment to redefine the narrative around breast care, inspiring countless others to embark on their path towards courage, self-care, and radiant well-being. It’s a legacy of love and hope, and a celebration of the Sahasi spirit residing within every woman.

The creation of the Sahasi Breast Care Program emerged from my deep and heartfelt understanding of the challenges women face when dealing with breast health.

As a medical doctor, I witnessed the emotional turmoil and uncertainties that women experienced upon discovering breast issues. The arduous journey from the discovery of a lump to a final diagnosis, even if it wasn’t breast cancer, left lasting imprints on their lives.

This realization fueled my profound need to empower women with the knowledge and tools to become self-sufficient in preventing breast issues and making early diagnosis.

A vital truth stood out: when breast abnormalities are identified at their earliest, even as small as a pea, they offer a very high chance of successful treatment and survival with minimally invasive interventions as I wished could have been the case with Sahasi.

Moreover, for women who had to undergo extensive treatments like mastectomy, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, the process of rehabilitation was paramount. Breasts are not just organs; they hold an essential place in a woman’s identity. Any ailment affecting the breasts has a profound impact for life-time on a woman’s mental and emotional well-being.

Throughout my journey I discovered the various ways in which women perceive and treat their breasts. More often than not, the emphasis is placed on wearing specific bras or even resorting to cosmetic surgeries in pursuit of achieving societal standards of beauty.

However, through my work, I gradually came to a profound understanding: breasts are naturally beautiful as they are.

There’s no universal criterion for the beauty of breasts; it’s an ideal shaped by society’s notions.

My vision for healthy and beautiful breasts extends beyond their physical well-being. Women’s breasts possess an incredible power. When they establish a profound connection with their breasts, they attain a state of natural health, creative spirit and happiness on every level of their being.

A fundamental cause of breast-related issues is the suppression of breasts—constantly striving to alter them, beautify them, or reject them as they naturally are. If a woman was the sole individual on this planet, devoid of comparisons and preconceived notions about how breasts should appear, would she ever contemplate altering or unnaturally beautifying them?

Would she reject her breasts as they are and persistently seek improvements?

These questions hold the key to understanding the essence of natural beauty.

In this era, breast cancer has become the most prevalent form of cancer, and its incidence is escalating at an alarming rate. Even young women are now grappling with breast cancer diagnoses. It is high time for reflection on this alarming trend and a call for transformation.

The Sahasi Breast Care Program, founded by me, is an answer to this call for change, a beacon of hope in the pursuit of breast health and overall well-being for women worldwide.

The story of the Sahasi Breast Care Program is a remarkable journey that began when I found myself immersed in the world of Ayurvedic Yoga Massage. At the time, I was offering sessions and massage trainings at Osho International Meditation Resort in Pune, India.

Every day, as I worked with women, I discovered a recurring desire among my clients – they sought a way to reconnect with their breasts, to truly feel them, and to promote their breast health.

These women were not indifferent to the well-being of their breasts. However, they lacked the knowledge and guidance on how to care for this integral part of their bodies.

Many shared that they applied moisturizers, conducted self-examinations, or attempted various exercises, but only a few truly understood the condition of their breasts.

Shockingly, some had lumps but were entirely unaware of them, while others experienced tenderness and swelling in their breasts during ovulation or before menstruation, and they were told that it was “normal.”

I recognized this gap and felt compelled to fill it. Drawing on my medical background, I began experimenting with different techniques. As I delved deeper into Ayurvedic Yoga Massage, I was astounded by the incredible results it yielded.

Not only did it transform the physical state of my clients, but it also had a profound impact on their mental and emotional well-being. This holistic approach went beyond my scientific understanding.

Encouraged by this experience,I received a traditional Ayurvedic breast massage from a wise woman, Master Kamala. While she wasn’t a formal instructor and contact was lost due to a lack of phone or email, her wisdom and healing touch left a lasting impact.

The sessions had a profound effect on the breasts, instilling a sense of health and happiness. The transformative experience even led to sensations in the breasts akin to the fullness and joy associated with pregnancy.

However, I consistently felt there was an aspect missing. Although, It included specific vital energy points and breast strokes, yet I wondered about the absence of focus on lymphatic drainage and the supportive tissues of the breast.

Without improvements in lymphatic drainage, blood circulation, mobilization of lymph nodes, and the release of stiffness around the breasts, the supportive tissues might not effectively clear toxins and support the breasts.

In such instances, the breasts may not achieve complete health, regardless of the attention given to them.

Utilizing my profound medical expertise, guidance from my mentor Kusum Modak, understanding of human anatomy and breasts, and years of practical experience giving sessions, I developed a holistic approach that addressed the physical, mental, and emotional dimensions at the same time.

The power of loving and respectful touch, by a woman to a woman, combined with the activation of vital energy points, held the key to transformation.

However, my quest didn’t end there. I had been practicing yoga asanas since childhood and observed how the absence of specific postures targeting the hormonal system, reproductive system, breasts, and chest negatively affected breast health.

With this insight, I selected precise yoga asanas designed for women’s bodies.

These postures were drawn from the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, Janardan Swami of Nagpur, and Master Kusum Modak, a disciple of Swami Iyengar Guruji.

Meditation also played a pivotal role, rooted in my 24 years of practice. These meditative techniques originated from Tibetan monasteries and the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra, tailored to enhance the health of women’s chests, breasts, reproductive system, femininity, and creativity.

To refine the meditation aspect of the Sahasi Breast Care Program, I collaborated with my friend Samarpan, an expert in meditation facilitation.

This collective effort led to the creation of a program structure and content that was continuously evolving.

The Sahasi Breast Care Program now offers various versions, both online and offline, ranging from two days to 21 days.

Most cherished is the 21-day Sahasi Breast Care Program held in Sahasi Center ‘The Sangham’, India.

Nestled in the pristine Pench Tiger Reserve, Sahasi Center offers a pollution-free, natural haven where organic grains and vegetables are grown. The program is a holistic experience, complete with specialized food, tea, and Ayurvedic supplements.

Women are in a protective environment where no outsiders are allowed, and the program has evolved into a heaven on earth for those who seek to nurture themselves and their breasts.

Sahasi Center, a place deeply intertwined with nature, stands as a testament to my own journey—a beautiful happening in my life for which I am eternally grateful.

The Sahasi Breast Care Program has transcended boundaries and continues to evolve, touching the lives of women worldwide. It’s a legacy of love, hope, and transformation, inspiring countless women to embark on their path towards self-care, breast care, courage, and radiant well-being.
